‘All living things come into our world with needs and an innate guidance system to meet them’, explains Joe Griffin.
There’s a correlation with these ‘human givens’ and how we enable change in a structured and outcome focused way to deliver strategy right first time . For example, setting meaning and purpose for change, creating a sense of community, empowering employee voices to shape the change, treating people as individuals, and creating opportunities to reflect.
The 9 human givens:
- Security
- Attention (to give and receive it)
- Sense of autonomy and control
- Feeling part of a wider community
- Emotional intimacy — being accepted for who we are
- Privacy — opportunity to reflect and consolidate experience
- Sense of status within social groupings
- Sense of competence and achievement
- Meaning and purpose
