Innovation and change can feel overwhelming, especially when the pace seems relentless.
Our founder, Charlotte Talmage, recently shared the stage with some brilliant leaders at the London Book Fair, and they all agreed on one thing:
Change is tough, but it’s the nuances of how you approach it that make the difference.
Here are some key takeaways we discussed with Antonia Seymour, CEO of the Institute of Physics Publishing, Joyce Lorigan, Group Head of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at Springer Nature Group, and Daniel Ebneter, CEO of Karger Publishers:
➜ Change is difficult and you won’t always feel comfortable, so accept the discomfort 😣✨
➜ Build resilience across the organisation through incremental daily progress, that’s what drives change and resilience – it’s how we show up every day to do this 🛠️📈
➜ Celebrate small successes along the way rather than waiting for big rollouts 🎉🥂
➜ Start small by piloting ideas and learning from experiments before large-scale implementation 🌱🧪
➜ Use clear measures and metrics to track progress on change initiatives, get feedback and build on what’s working 📊🔄
➜ Foster an environment of transparency and active listening to validate ideas with stakeholders and incorporate their input into changes, to build trust in the change 👂🤝
➜ Trust people and give them ownership for change. It’s about empowering them to lead the way and uncovering new and innovative ways of doing things 🤝 🔄
While technology drives innovation, it’s the people behind it that make change happen.
