What’s the difference between Change and Transformation?

Mandie Beitner, our Transformation specialist says: ‘Whilst ‘Change’ sets the groundwork, ‘Transformation’ brings about a holistic and lasting metamorphosis, driven by a unified purpose, ‘the North Star’. Both change and transformation are successful when leaders are aligned behind one clear ‘what and why’’.

Change is incremental, it’s often a finite initiative. It typically fixes the past. Changes are the stepping-stones to evolve or transform your organisation.

Transformation is the result of many changes to create the new future. It’s typically an extensive reshaping of the organisation, creating a new normal and way of being guided by a ‘north star’ (compelling vision). It changes hearts and minds, it changes processes and technology, it introduces new ways of doing business. Culture evolves. A Transformation includes a portfolio of change initiatives to achieve the desired outcome.
