How Lean Change is helping drive adoption of a new learning platform in Africa

Client challenge

When a global professional services company launched its first-ever learning platform in Africa in July 2024, the challenge wasn’t just introducing a new tool but inspiring employees to engage with it.

With busy day jobs, learning isn’t always a top priority for the 600 employees, so the team partnered with Uuna to apply Lean Change approaches to optimise uptake.

Our focus areas were:

  • Co-creation – involving employees in solution-finding
  • Peer influence – empowering advocates rather than relying on top-down messaging
  • Action-oriented solutions – with small, achievable steps for everyone

What we did

After a soft launch and online training sessions, we formed a Task Team of volunteers passionate about the platform. Using Lean Change techniques, we facilitated co-creation sessions to generate ideas and turn them into actionable steps.

We designed a simple whiteboard canvas to guide discussions:

  • How can we grow the Task Team?
  • How can we increase engagement with the platform?
  • What should we do next?

From there, we introduced a Kanban board to track ideas and actions. Each team member took ownership of one action, moving their tasks from ‘To do’ to ‘Doing’ and finally to ‘Completed.’

Business outcomes

Ideas flowed – from QR codes on posters to digital displays in offices and even setting a simple goal: “Talk to one colleague about the platform before the next meeting.” The Task Team grew to 16 engaged members, and momentum soared.

“Having the Uuna team involved and guiding us with using the tools and practically applying these in our work has been invaluable. They have really helped to make the approach accessible and really been encouraging throughout.”
